How to write an opening line that gets a reply
Most first messages fail because they are generic. A great opener proves you read their profile and makes replying easy.
-
Reference something specific
Mention a photo, prompt or detail. It shows interest and stands out from “hey”.
-
Ask an easy question
Open questions about stories and opinions are easier to answer than yes/no ones.
-
Keep it short
One or two sentences. Save the life story for the date.
-
Add a little personality
A light joke or playful guess makes you memorable.
-
Don’t over-compliment looks
Compliment their taste, humour or the story behind their photos instead — it feels more genuine.
